Veneers

VENEER

A dental veneer is a layer of material placed over a tooth to improve aesthetics .

There are two types of veneers, porcelain and composite, both have advantages and drawbacks.

Porcelain V Composite
PORCELAIN Aesthetically superior, unable to be stained, more expensive, if fractured the veneer needs to be replaced as it cannot be repaired.

COMPOSITE Considerably cheaper than porcelain, can be repaired if fractured or chipped, minimal to no tooth preparation required so does not damage your original tooth, can be stained, aesthetically inferior to porcelain however natural results are easily achievable.

Cosmetic conditions improved with veneers.

• Discoloured teeth that cannot be improved with whitening.
• Teeth with large gaps.
• Crooked or misshapen teeth.

Procedure

Composite veneers are done directly in one appointment. Porcelain veneers require two visits.
Visit 1 The tooth is prepared and shaped to define margins for the veneer. An impression is taken and sent to a laboratory for custom fabrication.

Visit 2 The veneer is cemented.
